Cleaning Your Coconut Bowls and Spoons

The key to looking after your coconut bowl is to essentially treat it like a natural wooden product. Once you've used your bowl and spoon, give it a good gentle rinse in warm soapy water. Rinsing and washing the set straight away after using will stop food drying out on the surface and makes it easier to clean.

Don't leave soak your bowl or spoon in water. Avoid putting your bowl or spoon in the dishwasher. The heat from the dishwasher could cause the bowl to split and will reduce the lifespan of the bowl and the spoon. The dishwasher may also cause your bowl to look drab and tired.

Storing your coconut bowls and spoon

Make sure your bowl and spoon are both completely dry before storing them away. Leave them in a cool dry place and ideally where air can circulate. As coconut bowls don't like extreme temperatures - do not store food in the bowls in the fridge or freezer as this can cause the bowl to crack.

Using Your Coconut Bowls

Our coconut bowls are ethically sourced, handmade, organic, vegan, plastic-free, non-toxic and food safe. They are great for serving a huge variety of foods from breakfast cereals, porridge, chia pudding, overnight oats and smoothie bowls to buddha and poke bowls, side dishes and snacks.

Coconut bowls like natural wooden kitchen products, don't like extreme temperature changes. So, never put boiling hot liquids (soups, stews etc) straight into the bowl. If you want to serve hot food - we recommend letting it cool to a temperature you would eat it at before putting it in the bowl. We also recommend gently warming your bowl up by gently rinsing it under warm water.

When serving cold foods like ice creams or smoothie bowls - again we recommend gently cooling your bowl by gently rinsing it under cool water.

Don't put your bowl or spoon in the microwave as this will cause it to crack.

Giving your bowl and spoon a little extra TLC

Just like a beautiful olive wood chopping board, it is good to give your coconut bowl and spoon an extra bit of love and care occasionally. Using a little bit of coconut oil (you can also use olive, flaxseed, linseed etc), wipe your bowl inside and out using a (recycled) paper towel or dry cloth. Leave the oil to completely soak in (around 1-2 hours should do it) and your good to use again. You can do this as frequently as you want; it is recommended to do it between every 5-15 uses to keep your bowl and spoon strong and looking great.

Final bits

Coconut bowls are super easy to look after by following the tips above. Taking care of them with a little TLC will reward you with a bowl and spoon that will last a very long time. The main thing to remember is to be very careful with temperature changes and avoid using them in the fridge, freezer, dishwasher or microwave.

If you did decide to get rid of your coconut bowl for any reason (why would you); they are completely biodegradable - you can simply pop them in the soil in your garden and they will start to degrade very quickly.
